American Teen, Khalid

There was point in time where this album was ALL I played. I would list my favorite songs but I would just end up listing the whole album. Khalid has absolutely killed me with his voicekhalid

Pair Acne Cream

I have my best friend to thank for introducing me to this product. I don’t actually have acne but had a few pretty bad pimple scars in around March that are now practically gone thanks to this. This stuff gets rid of pimples completely in a day or two and fades pimple/acne scars perfectly. It’s also so affordable and lightweight.

Down Time in Moresby

Travel

Touching Down in Port Moresby somehow felt like coming home… Even though it was only my second time in the country.

While I was in Papua New Guinea during my spring break, I spent half of my time by the beach, and half of it in the capital, Port Moresby. No joke in saying that I could live there and am definitely made for the tropics.

Spring Style Inspiration

Inspiration, Style

I can’t put in to words how happy I am that winter is over and that it’s officially Spring, the weather has been amazing in Fukuoka recently because the sun has been shining, and all of the cherry blossom flowers are in bloom (ironic because it’s raining today).

The theme of this season’s style for me is relaxed and basically rocking the style of looking laid back and casual yet still elegant and put together. That sounds pretty hard to fathom but I feel like the pieces I’ve shown here provide some pretty good examples

Happy Spring!!

“Suits”

Largely inspired by classic pin-striped or silk pajama sets. Wearing PJ’s outside of the house (especially to school) is something that I’m very strangely suuper comfortable and accustomed to doing, and because I actually love the vibe this gives off, I think a lot of things can be paired together so that they give off a similar aesthetic but are a bit more structured and put-together.

I thought denim on denim and wearing double of the same color was the biggest fashion sin ever until very recently. I actually love the way matching sets look with each other (if they are pulled off correctly) and think that there is such a cute vintage look in matching your top with your bottoms.

I haven’t really experimented with denim on denim (yet) but have matched loose black pants with with a loose black top tied into a knot at the bottom with a denim jacket or a long cardigan and love the way it looks.

IB Dying part 1 : Staying Organized

Inspiration
I don’t know how many people can relate to this, but I go through phases where I’ll be super motivated to work and study one week then have absolutely zero energy and motivation the next. Going through IB, this comes with ups and downs. Some weeks, you REALLY can’t afford not to work and give your all and other times, you’ll see the rewards that comes as a result of your hard work. However, recently
(in the past few months or so), I think I’ve finally gotten a hang of this whole thing and have mastered the act of staying (at least somewhat) motivated for longer periods of time. Sooo, here’s the first post in this series (if that’s what this is) on how I get through hell, also known as IB. Here’s what works for me. Hopefully it helps you a bit too.
One thing that COMPLETELY changes the game for me is staying organized. It’s almost pathetic how excited I get over to do lists and pretty agenda’s. Because of this, I am so motivated to get my work done for the satisfaction of checking that beautifully color coded assignment off my to do list. Even getting new assignments is fun when you get to add it to your calendar. Okay, that’s a slight exaggeration, but still – it’s much better than dreading assignments and having them pile up etc etc. Here’s how I stay organized;

Google Drive:
In my school, all of the work is actually done on google drive, which is convenient because it doesn’t take up any space on my laptop’s hard drive and can be shared with teachers and classmates super easily. It’s also nice that lots of people can access the same document or presentation at the same time for group work.
Looking at the picture it may look a little unorganized, however, the way it’s set up is; all of the documents at the bottom are things that I am using at the moment and would need to access everyday. When I’m done with that document (usually when we finish the topic in class) I drag the document into the ’11/12′ folder into the appropriate subject so that I can access it later on. The folders at the top, like ‘Sarah TOK’ for example are the same, once I’m done with that unit, they’ll go into the OG folder, under the right category in ’11/12′.

Respect

Inspiration, Writing

Okay bare with me, this could get a bit preachy…

One month into 2017 and I have learnt so much. This is honestly surprising to me because I came into this year thinking that I was pretty much set on understanding how to deal with things and life and what not. Hahahaha no joke, this past month has been a damn rollercoaster! I partially blame this on midterms and all the stress I’ve been feeling but at the same time, I think that this was the universe or something sending me some type of wake up call.

Two of the things that I was conflicted this month were respect and confidence, or lack thereof rather. I’ll make a separate post about confidence but in this one, I want to focus on respect and how truly, fucking fundamental it is.

Christmas with the Barth’s

Life, Travel

Perk of being Eurasian: Celebrating the traditional holidays from both of your cultures. #mixedkidlife

Eid in the summer and Christmas in the winter, and I am DEFINITELY not complaining. I spent Christmas this year with my family in Germany and it was (as usual), filled with presents, good food, family, champaign, smiles, and good conversation. You can read last year’s post here.

So traditionally, I don’t actually really celebrate Christmas. When I’m here, in Heidelberg, however, I go all out. I can confidently say that this year I was part of the Christmas hype and first hand witnessed the stress of Christmas shopping (or in my case creating), decorating the Christmas tree, baking Christmas cookies, and even singing Christmas carols… even though we sounded awful.

Life Lessons to Remember – Things I’ve Learnt 2

Inspiration

Part one here

If you see someone you know, go up and say hi! People really appreciate being remembered, you might make their day!

Life gets so much better the minute you stop worrying about what other people think. You don’t need to impress, or try to be anyone. You do you honey boo boo

A small circle of real friends is 100x better than a large circle of fake ones. Something I had to learn the hard way. Quality over quantity ALWAYS

Wear, do, say, think whatever YOU want. If you’re doing it with confidence and it’s coming from the heart, everything looks and sounds so much better.

Fukuoka Diary 2 : Fall

Life

I love the fall. The past few weeks have seriously been so beautiful in Fukuoka even though the temperature has dropped like crazy and it’s become impossible for me to leave bed every morning. Last week especially, the leaves were all in different colors and the sun was shining almost every day. Obviously I had to take some pictures so here they are hahaha.

November 5th

The night before, these pictures were taken, Jo and I went into the city for dinner and did some shopping then came home and just chilled… It was a pretty late night but as usual it was a great time filled with jamming to each others soundclouds and partying in our underwear. The next morning we lugged ourselves out of bed, made breakfast and ate it while watching ‘Bridget Jones Baby’ (so good btw) then head outside to the park.
