Winter Break Part 5 – On top of Germany

Currently sitting in the hotel lobby waiting for the taxi that will take us to the train station to get on the train(s) that will take us back to Heidelberg. It’s our last day here in the Alps and though I know I’ll miss it I also can’t wait to be back home in my Grandma’s House. Yesterday we went to the top of Germany’s tallest mountain, Zugspitze. Note to self: Bring ski’s next time.

As usual we left the hotel right after breakfast and after the usual train station chaos we got onto the little train that would be taking us to the base part of the mountain. Most of this train ride was very steep uphill and my eyes were practically glued to the windows. When we got off this train, we got to the ski/snowboard slopes. It was actually really sad to see because the sun was shining and it wasn’t too cold and it was the perfect weather to ski. BUT we didn’t know this before hand so we didn’t bring or ski’s or wear the right clothes. It was alright though because instead I just enjoyed the snow and got wetter than I would have liked hahah. It was also suuper warm and I was literally just in my hoodie and was even barefoot for sometime.

After the little time we spent playing on what was actually a ski slope we took the gondola up to the top of the mountain. It was pretty much one building that had restaurants, cafes and look out points. Since we were at the top of the highest, we had an overall view of the tops of all of the other mountains. Literally on top of Germany. The air was cleaner, the sky was blue and the sun was shining. Despite the crowd, it was a great time.

Now I’m on the train home, taking advantage of the fact that most trains in Europe have wifi (amen). Thinking about how much I don’t want to leave Germany and having to face exams right as I get back. ugh. Living in the moment, however, it’s really grey outside and I’m listening to throwback songs, loving it. I’m also really looking forward to New Years Eve WHICH IS TOMORROW and just a new year in general woop woop.
